Smiles From Little People

There are moments when something so damn adorable happens that you just know everything's OK in the world. Given, this euphoric peace only lasts a short time....

I was at the Post Office this morning. The Post Office- a place amongst the Top 5 Most Aggravating Businesses in America. Naturally, there was a line. Directly ahead of me was a woman with her little girl. The little one must have been about 2, and she had a baggie of Cheerios which she silently offered me every once in a while. Behind me was another woman with another little girl. This one was maybe 4 and had a box of crayons. She had dropped one, and a very old man came up to her to hand it back. The 4yo girl whimpered and moved back. I noted before this occurred that the old man was the closest caricature of the Grim Reaper I had ever seen walking around. The 4yo ducked around me, grabbing hold on my leg to hide behind. Everyone in the line, knowing the child was not mine, laughed. The old man, smiling, handed me the crayon which I then handed to the mother who needlessly apologized for her little girl.

Let's just say my heart, that cold lil' marble in my chest, was warmed by these 2 tiny people. I feel... pleasant.
