Another poem from my early years. Comes across as very "stalker" these days, although most poetry about "love" or "yearning" can sound that way...
It was when I wasn't looking,
When I felt there could never again be,
After you had been there for weeks,
My eyes opened for the first time again....
Only to see you
For what seemed like the first time
Even though we had talked,
And walked,
And laughed together before.
You enrapture me.
There is no mortal way to pin down
What it was about the moment you passed
That captured my eyes and breath
So quickly and fully.
Perhaps it was your flowing smile.
Mayhaps it was your stride.
Perhaps it was the toss of your hair.
Mayhaps it was a glance.
You enrapture me.
Defining it is the purest folly.
It was nothing so minute as a part.
It was you that attracted my stare.
All of you,
The whole of you,
And everything about you.
My heartbeat quickened.
My skin tingled.
My ears burned for your voice.
My eyes longed to be swallowed by yours.
And time slowed so that I could savor the moment.
You enrapture me.
So that leaves me
Yearning to be close
To be warmed by a smile.
For your smile is special to me,
As are you.
