Neither Rain...

The US Post Office is a bizarre and fascinating place to me.

 They are both part of and separate from the government, with their own set of rules and governing body. Notice their website isn’t a “.gov”?

 Due to this duality, they are the only legal monopoly in this country. While FedEx, UPS, DHL, etc may offer similar services with overnight packages and parcels in general, no other company delivers mail.

 While postage stamps are considered legal tender, only the Post Office accepts them.

 The Post Office employs a staggering number of personnel whose first language is not English. Given- while English is not our country's official language, all of our legal & governmental documents are written in it. As is our money- well, the parts not written in Latin....

 The Post Office is the only national document delivery company whose overall performance improved in the months following 9/11.

 If you have to go to the counter to mail anything, you have to sit through a 2 minute spiel on all the services they offer for whatever you’re shipping:
o Express Mail?
o Priority Mail?
o Flat Rate?
o First Class?
o Registered?
o Insurance?
o Tracking?
o Delivery Confirmation?
o Signature Confirmation?
o Post Office Box?
o Stamps?
o Christmas Stamps? (apparently, these must be separated from regular stamps)
o Envelopes?
G*d help you if you want something to go international.
Personally, I’m holding out for:
o Tires vulcanized while you wait?

 Lastly, there is their when-I-get-to-it speed of service and general lack of giving a shit. Comes with having a union job with a monopoly run by the government.
