I was at the Sacramento Zoo this Wednesday with some friends. I was pleased that the Zoo had tidied up some since I was last there in 2001. Given, they still don't have basics like elephants, bears, or hippos but beggars/ choosers. Regardless, the animals' enclosures seemed much better than before, and that made me happy.
What caught my eye was some construction going on near the main entrance for some new carousal. Once completed, there will be 32 seats (or animals) on the ride and they can be adopted for $5000 each with the monies going to the Zoo. In theory, it's all good.
But here are my issues:
1) How're they paying for the carousal in the first place? According to online, less than 10 of the animals have been adopted. I hope to hell somebody's donating the cash for construction.
2) The unveiling is supposed to be in Spring of 2009. Uh... that's now, isn't it?
3) Several of the animals featured on the ride aren't in the Zoo. False advertising?
4) One of the animals is a dung beetle.
A dung beetle.
A fucking dung beetle!
Barring some idiot who's going to ride it simply so they can repeat the word "dung", who the fuck'd want to ride it? You know some poor kid's going to get stuck riding it during the Summer and end up bawling his head off the whole time. I can understand having the ladybug and praying mantis on board for the "bug lovers"- one's cute and very much for the young girls & the other's cool and eats their sex partners. But a dung beetle?
A fucking dung beetle?
