My House

Circa 1910.
The man on the right is my great grandmother's brother.
The side facing the camera has been bricked up, and the left side is now the front of the house.
The house in the right side of the picture is no longer there and is now where my backyard is.

Sadly, the hitching post is no longer there....

House Update

As I finished installing the new cafe doors mere minutes ago, everything's done except for re-mortaring the cellar (which starts tomorrow), installing the vertical blinds (which cannot be done by only 1 person), and everything to do outside.

Repainted stairwell with installed colored glass window.
Repainted kitchen with installed bi-fold door.
Shelf I made from a shutter.
Shelving unit I made from a mantle.
Another selving unit I made- this time from a window unit.
Red room. Yes- those are claws coming from the wall.
Red room- pic with curtains.
Red room- angle 3.

I'll post more pics later.

Remodel Update 12.5.10

The next 2 weeks are INSANE at work with me working mucho OT (yay- $$$!!!) so not much more will get done until after then.

Lingo:
Up here, the room leading to the back door is called a "mud room". And a living room is known as a "4 seasons room".
And now you know.

* still need to replace the carpet on the stairs. I've ripped out the old stuff.
* got all the shelving and finished with all 3 units I made from leftover window frames and treatments. 1 is a wall unit and fell off the ladder while I was putting the anchors in. Made a nice crack along the bottom but still works.
* done painting the mud room. I need to install the antique curtain rods and buy curtains.
* have to borrow some wrenches to install the new showerhead but finished with the hardware.
* I forgot to purchase more mesh so only finished 1 of the screens for the picture windows. I still need to purchase and install the vertical blinds.
* still I'm looking for a replacement door for the office. Difficult to find the size I need with glass panels.
* bike's in no rush to be repainted. Can't use it until the weather's at least 40 degrees anyway.
* the kitchen needs to be totally repainted.

There's still all the Springtime repairs (+ the cellar).

House Update

So much done with the house. So much left to do.

Except for the 2 larger projects (the garage (which can't be started until Spring) and the basement), everything I'm working on now is non-essential polishing:
* I'm close to being done with the stairwell with only some touch-up painting and replacing the carpet left.
* I need 2 shelves (1 glass and 1 wood) to finish the shelving units I've made. Should have those this week.
* Can't finish the front patio as it's below freezing (and sunny and beautiful out) but I wasn't planning on that until Spring/Summer.
* I've started painting the mud room. Once finished, I need to install the antique curtain rods and buy curtains.
* I'm 3 cabinet handles and a hose for the new showerhead away from completing the bathroom.
* I should have the screens for the picture windows done by next weekend. Although I still need to purchase and install the vertical blinds.
* I'm looking for a replacement door for the office that's more "me". Something with glass panels.
* The bike is in no rush to be repainted. Can't use it until the weather's at least 40 degrees anyway.
* Which leaves the kitchen to be totally repainted.

Last weekend I decided to only work 2 hours on the house on any workday. Otherwise I come home from working 8-9 hours, labor on the house for 6-7 hours, eat if I remember, don't pay enough attention to Fred, and crash for a few hours. It was too much considering my deadline (barring those projects to start in Spring) is way out on March 18th.

I think I can do it.
I think I can, I think I can.

Tired

I've been busy.
Very busy. Been working from 6am to midnight every day. And holding down a full-time job.
Yesterday I was about the most exhausted I've ever been without having fun or getting paid.

In my first ten days I've:
* moved
* cleaned everything
* re-arranged the entire garage (the previous owners left tons of stuff there)
* cleaned my gutters (there were saplings growing in it) from a 22-foot ladder
* re-cemented my walkway
* painted my window trims, stairway railing, front door (UT burnt orange), front porch railings, and touch-up painted throughout
* re-caulked my tub
* installed blinds and curtains
* weatherstripped my doors and garage
* tons of yard work
* sprayed for bugs
* carried a washer and dryer downstairs by myself
* trimmed trees
* stained my deck
* repaired a deadbolt
* removed my bathroom door, planed it by hand, sanded it by hand, and re-hung it
* mortared the decorative brick lining of my walkway
* installed window screens
* installed an oven/range and range fan
* repaired some fencing
* added a level of dirt around the house to direct rain away from the structure
* installed a thermostat
* replaced a window header
* re-ducted my vents
* began redoing the entire garage (needs a serious overhaul)
* installed doorstops
* installed pantry doors
* installed a water conditioner
* and much, much more

Still to come:
* moving my stuff from Texas
* moving my stuff from California
* replacing the hardware
* installing an awning
* repairing some outside lighting
* replacing the stairway carpeting
* adding additional fuses (I have some double-tapping)
* re-planing two doors
* painting the kitchen, dining room, bedroom, doors, and garage
* adding a cellar door
* adding 104" by 84" vertical blinds to the picture windows
* tiling the front porch
* replacing the garage locks
* adding baseboards to the mud room and bedroom
* adding trim to the interior of the backdoor
* and a MASSIVE overhaul of the cellar

Yep. I'll be tired for a while to come.

Oh yeah, exorcise the ghost cows from the Four Seasons room. mmmMOOOOOooooooo
