As you know, Washington Mutual was bought out a year ago by Chase Manhattan Bank.
A year later and they STILL haven't finished the changeover.
So here's my grump:
About a week ago, I stop by a branch to deposit a check in their ATM. It accepts my code but won't let me do anything. As it was 7am, I called Chase's 800# to locate another ATM- twice. The 1st F-er hung up on me and the 2nd had no idea why the ATM wouldn't work in the first place.
During my lunch hour, instead of eating, I spent it at the bank. After- I repeat AFTER- the teller processed my check, she informed me that the funds would not be available for "at least 48 business hours" and explained it was due to the final stages of the WAMU/Chase merger. I "thanked" her for letting me know before she did the transaction.
After work, I again called their 800# to try and get more details. Again- twice. Both times I was hung up on. I was officially hacked off.
I then called the bank manager of the branch I went to earlier in the day. He explained that since I started my account in California with a Texas driver's license, the bank assumed I live in Texas (as if there's a "Carmichael, CA, TX") and until the merger was completed on October 23rd, 2009, I could not use Chase ATMs (I could use other ATMs but would be charged a fee by Chase) and all deposits (including my direct deposits) would be delayed a minimum of 48 hours.
Oh yeah- he also said he didn't care about any of that.
Well, let's just say that I was fueled with rage. So much so that I didn't eat for almost 2 days after. And I was heavily motivated to start a new account with another bank- which I did that very night. Free interest checking with free use of over 28,000 ATMs. I'm just waiting on my direct deposit to switch then I pull all my money and close my account
And I just found out yesterday that the only way I can get money out AT my bank is by cashing a check. "CONVENIENCE" is not their catchphrase.
FUCK YOU, CHASE BANK!!!
I won't miss you.
